Foodie Friday: Homemade Taco Seasoning.
Hooray! Friday is here! For the first Foodie Friday since the fall, I chose one of my favorite kitchen staples…Taco Seasoning. I know, not glamorous or exotic, but this spice mix is so tasty, much less expensive and loads healthier than the store-bought variety. Plus, we actually like the flavor more because I only use the spices we enjoy most. I mix up a batch of this, store it in an airtight container and have it on hand for a quick dinner anytime. Like I said, because you are making it, it is easy to control the ingredients and tailor it to your or your family’s taste! Perfect!!! I like to make at least 2 pounds of taco meat at a time, having plenty for dinner and then lots left over for nachos, to serve over baked potatoes, etc.! I hope you enjoy and have a fabulous weekend!
2 Tbsp., Chili Powder
1 tsp., Garlic Powder
1/2 tsp., Onion Powder
1/2 tsp., Crushed Red Pepper Flakes (I leave this out of ours…we aren’t big spicy food people!)
1/2 tsp., Dried Oregano
1/2 tsp., Paprika
3 tsp., Ground Cumin
2 tsp., Sea Salt
2 tsp., Ground Black Pepper
Combine ingredients in small bowl and store in an airtight container until needed. (I like to place the loose powder on a piece of parchment paper and use that to funnel into my spice jars…less mess! :)) Brown ground beef in large sauté pan over medium heat until cooked through. Add spice mix and dash of water to beef to taste (I like to use between 2 and 3 Tbsp. of the spice mix per pound of ground beef!). Stir until spices coat all of the meat, remove from heat and serve!
*Note this recipe is easily adjusted to suit your personal taste! After making the basic recipe, feel free to add/omit ingredients! So easy and without all those nasty added ingredients found in the grocery store packets!
